Bonnys Self Storage is run by James Bonny, the third generation of his family to setup and run their business from Penge.

His Grandfather initially started a shop and wholesaler ‘Bonny Goods, Wholesale & Hosiery’ in Maple Road during the 1960s.  His wholesale business provided jobs for locals and quality goods (such as ‘Bonny Girl Tights’) for a reasonable price, not just to the local community, but to hundreds of shops around the country.

As soon as he could, his son, James’ father, went into the business, learning the ropes and eventually taking over.  He expanded the Maple Road property by adding a warehouse at the rear of the shop to accommodate the growing business and then branched out into property.

Following in the family tradition, James soon became involved in the family business, initially helping his father wherever needed.  With the innate family entrepreneurial spirit, he soon found an opportunity to develop his own business.   A dilapidated property became available on Limes Avenue and James recognised the potential to develop this as a self-storage unit to provide a facility for the local population, in what was a fast expanding service area.

With the purchase of the Limes Avenue property going through, James persuaded his father to lease him the Maple Road warehouse, which was no longer in use, and converted it into the Bonnys Self Storage on Maple Road, opening in 2014.  Following an extensive building project to bring the property at Limes Avenue up to a high industry standard, the main unit at Limes Avenue opened in 2015. Followed by the opening of the third site, Maple 2 in 2019.

Today Bonnys Self Storage provides clean, secure, storage units at their three sites for a variety of customers.  With competitive pricing, no hidden extras and no long-term contract required, it is the ideal place to store if you are moving, renovating or just decluttering.

James continues to manage the daily running of the business offering honest advice and a helpful service. Like his father and grandfather before him he also continues to provide a friendly, family service to the local community and employment to local people.

It is not just James who has the entrepreneurial spirit, his sister Danielle also has a local business – Bonnys Beauty in Penge High Street.
